Renewable Energy Methodology

The Energy sector remains the largest contributor to global GHG emissions. Deep emissions reductions in this sector are critical to limiting the rise in global temperatures.

The Renewable Energy Methodology provides detailed guidance to facilitate the assessment of the GHG impact of renewable energy policies, providing essential information for policymakers to develop and improve the effectiveness of policies

The guide can be applied to policies that are planned, adopted, or implemented, as well as extensions, modifications, or termination of existing policies. It is relevant to all countries and regions.

The Executive Summary is available now, while the full guide will be released very soon.

The methodology focuses on five policy interventions:
  • Feed-in tariff policies
  • Auction policies
  • Tax incentive policies
  • Net metering
  • Variable renewable energy (VRE) integration with grid-battery storage policies
